Book Review: Creating Your Best Life: The Ultimate Life LIst Guide

It is not God’s will merely that we should be happy, but that we should make ourselves happy.
-Immanual Kant

I ordered Creating your Best Life: The Ultimate Life List Guide a little over two years ago after I read a motivating post about setting goals. I wanted to find a good, entertaining read that would help me to write a bucket list.

When I first got it, I noticed it was a pretty big read with over 250 pages! Surprisingly, it took several weeks to finish because every chapter really made me stop and think critically about my life and who I was.

The book reads like a manual.  The main purpose of the book is to help the reader translate all of those innermost fears, hopes and dreams into a life list (aka bucket list). This is not a cheesy read; it’s serious! It delves into scientific studies, bios, and statistics. It includes quotes, worksheets and exercises, and finishes off with thought provoking questions to help you write your bucket list. Basically, you create your life list, while you read, and the more you read, the more insightful your goals become.

The best thing I liked about this book, was not only how educational it was, but how motivating. Anyone can sit down and write a list. But not everyone will actually write down things that they truly deeply want, and work on achieving them.

Let me break something down for you folks...

I am a pretty bold person. All my friends know. Some of them think I am crazy. Although I like to try new things, I too (like most folks) harbor that inner voice of doubt and defeat. The voice that says no that’s silly, or that’s too expensive, or maybe next year. What always happened is that I impressed myself with all my dreams, but never really actually was taking steps to achieve them. While I was reading the book I finally shut down that interior negativity and made some promises to myself. As a result of reading this book I not only created a bucket list that truly encompasses what I hope to achieve in life, but I also accomplished a number of them such as learning how to swim, scuba diving in the Mediterranean, learning how to kayak, and going on a scary road trip all the way from Alaska to New York!

I decided to rate it on a scale of 1-10 for each of the following categories:
1.       How organized and well written it was
2.       How entertaining it was
3.       How educational it was
4.       How motivating it was
5.       How much actual change occurred in my life after reading it

This book easily scores 100%.

Saying that this book helped to change my life is an understatement. You can go check out my bucket list up top on the tab to see what I am talking about.

I would recommend anyone who wants to write a life list to go and get this first!!!!

  1. Really loved this post! I will definitely look into buying this. Ever since I stopped working and started to follow my husband around on his adventures, I have felt a need to do something meaninful. Teaching was one of the best experiences of my life, but right now my time is to support my husband. While I am doing that, I would like to try to do something that makes me feel worthwhile. Will definitely get this! Thank you for sharing.
