Book Review: Creating Your Best Life: The Ultimate Life LIst Guide

It is not God’s will merely that we should be happy, but that we should make ourselves happy.
-Immanual Kant

I ordered Creating your Best Life: The Ultimate Life List Guide a little over two years ago after I read a motivating post about setting goals. I wanted to find a good, entertaining read that would help me to write a bucket list.

When I first got it, I noticed it was a pretty big read with over 250 pages! Surprisingly, it took several weeks to finish because every chapter really made me stop and think critically about my life and who I was.

My Style: Underwraps Fashion Show Getup

Here is what I wore! I got in touch with the sister Sutanah who took some incredible photos of the event as well as myself. Thank you sis!

Featured Events: Underwraps Muslim Model Launch and Fashion Show!

Asalamu Alaykum folks!

Alhamdoolilah, I finally got the pictures back from the famous Underwraps Muslim Modeling Agency Launch that I attended this past Saturday, February 11th. My best buddy Dannie and I got dressed all spiffy to view some of the unique pieces from Nailah Lymus herself, as well as other local New York Muslim Designers. It was featured at RARE salon in Tribeca NYC.

When we first walked in we noticed how packed it was. There was a great diversity of Muslim and non-Muslim attendees, models, bloggers, stylists, make-up artists, and photographers. We stood around and grabbed some drinks to await the show. Before my camera died (yes it did) Dannie, got a chance to take a few photos of the decor. The first thing we noticed is  the large array of paintings being sold for charity.

Habits to live by: 6 ways to Resist the Urge to Shop!

Asalamu Alaykum folks!

Throughout this blog you will often find me promoting better buying habits, but today I want to change it up a bit.

Lately, it seems like frugality and thrift is slowing making its way into the “un-cool” pile and consumerism is becoming the new trend. For example, how common is it to hear nowadays “I shouldn’t have bought this” or “I feel so guilty.”

Shopping addictions are now legitimate afflictions, and hoarding (considered a type of OCD) is on the rise. With major retailers advertising on Face book and bloggers pushing out product reviews like crazy it feels like there is more pressure than ever to buy, buy, buy…..

Khalo folks! And Asalamu Akaykum!
I was inspired by Sis M. who featured some beautiful gifts she received from Saudi Arabia. A few months ago, my supervisor returned from Hajj (mashallah) and came bearing gifts!

See you after the Fashion Show!

Asalamu Alaykum!

Last week I was invited to a fashion show in New York baby! I am excited about going back to NY and seeing some of my friends inshallah.

Did I mention its a fashion show for Muslim women? I will be going to view the latest collection of Amira Creations and watching my awesome friend walking down the runway. Here she is featured in the latest press release for the show.

The show coincides with the opening of the first Muslim Model Agency known as Underwraps. You can view their website and signed models here.

I am so excited I can barely contain myself. First I have to clean my house like a mad woman, send some stuff, pick outfits....arrgh I should have started this sooner!

I kept it secret secret as I was desperately looking for a babysitter since Mommy will be out on the town for the first time in a LONG FRicken time. Yay for me and freedom!!!

Be back in a few days inshallah (Make dua for safety :)

Product Review: Aab Abaya!

Asalamu Alaykum!

Today I have a product review I know you are all going to love!

I usually do not wear abayas, but when I first laid my eyes on the Aab storefront, I knew I was in love. The cuts and colors of Aab abayas definitely make the company stand out.

Product Review: Paisely Princess etsy ring!!!

Asalamu Alaykum!

Not too long ago, I wanted to buy my best friend (practically my sister) a gift for all that she has done for me. After I made a decision to buy her a cocktail ring I happened along one of the most gorgeous rings I have ever seen. I rarely wear rings, but I knew this screamed my name.

Isn't it great when you find the perfect piece that feels like it was made for you?

How to: Improve your Blog and Gain Readership!

When I first started a blog, I had no idea what the fudge I was doing. I was inspired to do it by an amazingly talented gal named Sere (Check out her awesome blog!) but found myself lost in a sea of confusion.

Widgets, stats, SEO, HTML, CSS....omg.

Naturally, like all newbies I stuck with Google search and found answers to all my questions. I started blogging a few years ago and haven't stopped since.

Habits to live by: Minimalism and sleeping on the floor!

“The best richness is the richness of the soul.”
 - Hadith of the Prophet Muhammed saws

Ever since I started adopting more frugal spending habits last year, I became aware of a way of living known as Minimalism.

Minimalism can exist in multiple forms, whether in structure, art, food, or fashion. It seems in recent years, many folks in the West are now adopting it as a lifestyle choice.

Storage Solutions: Easy Hijab Storage (the Furiously Fab Way)

This post is in part inspired by Sobia from Reveiling Yourself as well as all the tons of other hijab storage ideas posted on the internet. I have always had trouble storing my hijabs. Here are the reasons why:
  • I have lots of fricken Hijabs
  • Most of mine are maxi (Voluminous and on the thicker side so they take up more space)
  • Mon Sou sou makes it her mission in life to incite chaos wherever she roams as well a try on all my scarves
In the past tried folding them in drawers but I just couldn't keep up with the maintenance and I kept running out of space.

Do any of you have this problem?
